Mohbad: Popular Ekiti private radio bans Naira Marley songs till further notice

Fresh FM 106.9, a Popular privately owned radio broadcast station, located in Ado, the capital city of Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning, 19th of September, 2023 banned the playing of songs by Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station indefinitely.

The radio station disclosed this in a post shared on its Instagram page (@freshfm1069adoekiti) and signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams.

The ban follows the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, better known as MohBad, and criticism surrounding Naira Marley.

Earlier, on Monday, as recently published by the freshreporters media, a radio broadcast station, Splash FM 105.5 Ibadan, Oyo state, also banned the playing of songs by Marlian boss.

The statement reads,

“Following the public outcry from the general public trialing the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), the alleged victimisation from different videos going viral and the involvement of members of his previous record label (Marlian records), fresh 106.9 fm has suspended the airplay of all songs and contents under the banner of Marlian Records,” it said.

It could be noted that MohBad passed away at the age of 27 on the 12th of September, 2023.

In lieu to the tragic incident that weakened the Nigeria music industry and fans worldwide, Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, 18th of September, 2023 set up a special investigative team to probe the death of Popular Singer and is expected to submit an interim report within two weeks.

The team, consisting of 13 members, is “to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim, identify witnesses, culprits if any and any person that will be helpful to the investigative process and deploy processes and other technological tools to aid the investigative course in line with the relevant provisions of the Nigeria Constitution and the State Laws,” the Lagos spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed.
