In a compelling investigative hearing conducted by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee, Mmesoma Ejikeme, a 19-year-old Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate, offered a heartfelt apology after being accused of result forgery by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The student, who hails from Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra State, had initially claimed to have scored 362 marks on the 2023 UTME, contrary to her JAMB records, which showed a score of 249 marks.
Present at the hearing was the JAMB Registrar, Prof Isiaka Oloyede, who emphasized the robustness of the JAMB system, asserting that it had never been compromised during his tenure. According to Oloyede, JAMB had 19 pieces of evidence supporting the claim of Mmesoma’s result forgery, including the discovery that she had superimposed her results on those of a student who had taken the exam in 2021 in Osun State.
In her sincere and remorseful apology, Mmesoma admitted her ignorance, acknowledging that she had mistakenly obtained her JAMB result from an unauthorized portal, rather than the official JAMB portal. She expressed deep regret for the pain she caused and pleaded for leniency, emphasizing that she had never engaged in any form of examination malpractice before. The contrite student vowed to be a better person and promised that such misconduct would never happen again.
During the hearing, the JAMB Registrar disclosed that Mmesoma’s account had been accessed from eight different Computer Based Test Centers across the country, raising suspicions that she might have shared her password with someone else. The Centers in question are currently under investigation, with the one where she registered already suspended.
While initially deciding not to subject Mmesoma to public testimony due to her age, the committee later reversed its decision upon discovering she was 19 years old. The committee commended Mmesoma, her father, and her lawyers for attending the hearing and advised her to learn from her mistakes (CONTINUE READING HERE)
