Mentally Deranged Man Allegedly Strangles Student To Dêath During Exam In Ondo

Arogbo, Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo state was struck by tragedy on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, when a suspected mentally deranged man reportedly strangled a 17-year-old student, Beke Meretighan, to death.

The shocking incident took place at Ijaw National High School Arogbo, Ese Odo LG, while the victim was in the midst of writing his Junior WAEC examination.

According to reports from HOPE, a newspaper owned by the Ondo State government, chaos ensued when the mentally ill individual gained entry into the school premises. Witnesses recounted that the man began chasing after students while they cried out “were,” the Yoruba word for “mad person.”

In a horrifying turn of events, the suspect allegedly seized the JSS 3 student and proceeded to place his head under his armpit, mercilessly strangling him until his life was tragically cut short.

The incident has left the community in a state of shock and mourning, as the promising young student’s life was abruptly and violently taken away.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the matter to ascertain the motive behind the attack and to determine if there were any lapses in security or supervision at the school.
