Umuahia, the Abia State capital, was quiet on Friday as residents observed a sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) in remembrance of fallen Biafran heroes.
Streets were largely deserted with only a handful of tricycles and private vehicles seen moving around.
Shops remained closed, and commercial hubs such as markets and motor parks were completely shut down.
Banks and financial institutions did not open their doors to customers, while both public and private schools suspended academic activities for the day.
With normal life at a standstill, some youths took to the empty streets to play football, while small groups of residents gathered at the fronts of their homes, engaging in quiet discussions.
