One faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared that they will not support the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, due to his refusal to include Igbos on his transition committee. However, another member of the group has expressed their unreserved support for him.
In a recent development, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ime-Obi, the highest decision-making body of the group, has announced that no one will use force to prevent Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29th. They have also declared that they recognize Tinubu as Nigeria’s president-elect and will support him after his inauguration.
The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stated that the faction that refused to recognize Tinubu was made up of unpatriotic elements who had been suspended from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
He emphasized that it is unpatriotic to use the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to reject the election of a candidate who has been declared the winner of the presidential election.
Isiguzoro clarified that Ndigbo fully recognizes the president-elect, Vice President-elect, Shettima, and will continue to support them until a court of competent jurisdiction says otherwise. He also noted that Ndigbo are progressive-minded and economically oriented and will support any government at the center.
Isiguzoro warned against people who attempt to cause trouble on behalf of Ndigbo against Tinubu, stating that they will not succeed. He emphasized that Ohanaeze Ndigbo will participate fully in the inauguration at the Eagles Square, and there is no force on earth that can stop the president-elect from being sworn in.
He further advised Tinubu to disregard those who do not speak on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and to continue to receive their support to ensure the success of his government. He stressed that the Ime-Obi Ohanaeze has never authorized anyone to speak against the president-elect, and they will fully support whoever wins the presidential election.
Finally, he made it clear that Ohanaeze is not the enemy of the president-elect, and they will not permit anyone to make an unfounded statement that Ohanaeze does not recognize Tinubu.
