The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has distanced itself from a dress code document circulating online, describing it as unauthorised and not the version approved by the institution’s Governing Council.
In a statement on the university’s X handle, it stated that while a dress code for students had indeed been approved, the viral document did not reflect the official policy adopted by Council.
“Although Council has approved a dress code for the students of the University, what went viral was not the document approved by Council,” the statement reads.
The institution assured that the authentic version of the dress code will be released in due course, stating it is aimed at enhancing academic sensibilities, social decency, and ethical standards.
