James Sunday, a 35-year-old motorcycle rider, was detained in Ondo State on suspicion of strangling Justinah Sunday, a 42-year-old lady.
It was learned that the late Justinah was a friend of the suspect’s wife.
According to the police, the motorcyclist at No. 47, Ijoka Road, Akure, committed the crime using a rope.
Reportedly, the deceased requested assistance from the suspect to transport N250,000 worth of beef to a client, but the suspect ended up diverting the meat.
According to police sources, James threatened the deceased every time she asked to be paid for her meat until her body was discovered.
However, Jame was charged with one count of murder at an Akure Chief Magistrate Court.
The Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, Sections 316 and 319 are violated in this case, according to Police Prosecutor Taiwo Oniyere, who told the court.
Oniyere asked the court to detain the defendant in the Olokuta Correctional Center while it awaited guidance from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, since the defendant declined to enter a plea.
Notwithstanding his claim that he had known the woman for nearly ten years, the defendant denied murdering her.
He said it was a long time since he had seen the late Justinah.
James’ remand in police custody was imposed by Presiding Magistrate T. O. Olusola-Olujobi, who also postponed the case until April 18, 2024. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
