A shocking homicide investigation is underway in Fort Gibson as authorities from the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) are probing the tragic death of a woman found in her backyard.
The victim has been identified as Julie Adreon, according to family members who spoke to FOX23.
Sheriff Andy Simmons revealed that the discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon when deputies responded to a call reporting the disturbing incident.
Upon arrival, they found Julie Adreon’s lifeless body, and evidence of trauma led them to treat the case as a homicide.
In connection with the investigation, deputies swiftly located and apprehended the primary person of interest, Joey Whorton.
He was taken into custody for questioning after being identified as the last person seen leaving the residence where the victim’s body was later found. Whorton will be held at the Pittsburg County jail on outstanding warrants while the murder investigation unfolds.
The Fort Gibson community remains on edge as the investigation progresses, and authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. As of now, the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident remain unclear.
