A male visitor has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected hard drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Agodi, Ibadan.
The Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed that the suspect was caught during routine security checks on visitors and their belongings at the facility’s entrance.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Anjorin, the visitor, who claimed to be at the centre to see an inmate, concealed substances believed to be Colorado and hemp inside cooked rice and pasta.
Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered inconsistencies in his stated reason for the visit, further suggesting an attempt to bypass security protocols.
The suspect has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and potential prosecution.
