The police in Lagos have detained a 47-year-old man known only as Shola after finding N13,000 worth of counterfeit currency in his possession.
According to Lagos Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin on Friday, Shola was detained on January 17, 2024, at around 6.30 p.m., at Apapa Under Bridge, Lagos, after using counterfeit Naira notes to pay N7,000 for products at Oba Abdulfatai Aromire Ojora market, Ijora.
Hundeyin said when the suspect was turned over to Ijora Badia Police Divisional officers, more than N6,000 worth of counterfeit notes were found on him.
“The total suspected counterfeit Naira notes recovered as exhibit was N13,000.
“The case was subsequently transferred to State CID, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation. The suspect admitted to the commission of the crime and mentioned where he purchased the suspected counterfeit currencies.
“The exhibit recovered have been duly registered and efforts are in progress to apprehend other accomplices connected to the crime,” he said. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
