Social media users praised Lionel Messi for his goal shortly after he was provoked by opposition supporters yelling Cristiano Ronaldo’s name.
The 36-year-old star of Inter Miami has had a phenomenal start to life in the Major League Soccer (MLS) since switching to the US last year. up Thursday night, he put up another outstanding performance against Nashville.
With a 3-1 victory over their opponents, David Beckham’s team advanced to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-finals. Messi scored Inter Miami’s second goal in the game, and a Nashville end of the stadium fan’s video footage of the goal has since gone viral.
Because both players are considered modern-day football icons, Ronaldo has long been viewed as Messi’s adversary. During the video, supporters can be heard shouting Ronaldo’s name. Messi, however, was unfazed by the chants as he scored a goal shortly after the tape began to hush the supporters wearing blue and gold.
The Portuguese sensation took offense when supporters started screaming Messi’s name during a game against Al-Shabab. Ronaldo who currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League made a vulgar gesture in response after scoring in the 3-2 victory. However, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) fined and banned him.
