The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA has commenced deep cleaning of the Mile 2 to Badagry stretch of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The area is said to have witnessed extensive illegal dumping of waste.
The operation aims to restore sanity to the highway which is the gateway to Lagos from the West African sub-region.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Managing Director of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, on Tuesday, 23rd of July, 2024.
The statement reads:
“The #Lawma_gov Operations Team has started intensive deep cleaning of the Mile 2 to Badagry stretch of Lagos-Badagry Expressway, an area that has witnessed extensive illegal dumping of waste.
“While Mile 2 to Badagry is within our daily operation routes, we have not carried out sustained enforcement here. We will do that now over the next 6 months to bring sanity to this critical highway that is the gateway to Lagos from the West African sub-region.
“Just like the ongoing operations along Lekki-Epe Expressway (#OperationDeepCleanLekki), we will be deploying the following operational units for greater efficiency and effectiveness: Operations Unit working with compactors, tipper trucks, mechanical shovels, excavators, and manual loading, Advocacy Unit for community engagement, Monitoring and Compliance Unit to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for environmental infractions, Marine and Vegetal Waste Unit to cut overgrown medians and verges and for litter control, Special Enforcement Unit to apprehend cart pushers who are largely responsible for illegal dumping.
“Attached videos show before, during, and after of one of the cleared heaps of waste at Oko Afo, Badagry.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
