LASTMA commences citywide clean up, seizes 235 vehicles, arrest 10

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has kicked off a major citywide clean up operation aimed at restoring order on the roads and enhancing the city’s visual appeal.

On the first day of the exercise, officers impounded 235 vehicles across key locations including Oyingbo, Oshodi, Adeniji Adele, Jibowu, and Iddo.

The seized vehicles ranged from private cars and commercial buses (Danfo) to tricycles, trucks, and interstate buses.

The agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday.

According to LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the operation targeted motorists violating traffic regulations.

Offences included illegal parking on pedestrian walkways, obstruction of traffic flow, creation of unauthorized bus stops, and general disregard for traffic rules.

He emphasised that the clean-up exercise would continue across other parts of the state as part of efforts to ensure a safer, cleaner, and more organized Lagos.

Bakare-Oki said:

“LASTMA is now operating under a strict zero-tolerance mandate against traffic infractions. All impounded vehicles will be promptly arraigned before the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecution. The era of impunity on our roads is over,” he declared with unflinching resolve.

“This operation is not an attack on any demographic or commercial interest; it is an overdue rectification of systemic dysfunction. We call upon every road user to embrace this moment as an invitation to collective civic renewal.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
