LASEPA launches awareness campaign to combat p0llution in Lagos

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA recently launched a statewide awareness and sensitisation campaign to address the pressing issues of air pollution and indiscriminate discharge of untreated effluent into the environment and water bodies.

This was conveyed in a post LASEPA official X handle on Friday, 16th of August, 2024.

The post reads:

“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) organized a statewide awareness and sensitization campaign, with a call on manufacturing Industries across the State to stop discharge of untreated effluent into the drains and water bodies for the protection of human health and the ecosystem .

“The event which took place at the State Treasury Resource Centre, Alausa gathered together Stakeholders’ from various sectors committed to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment.

“Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Environment, Engr Olakunle Akodu stated that the sensitization is aimed at addressing the pressing issues of air pollution and indiscriminate discharge of untreated Effluent into the environment and water bodies, adding that there was the need for all stakeholders to take responsibility for environmental protection.

“During his opening remarks, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, stated that there is an urgent need for ongoing dialogue regarding the management of effluent in Lagos State, a region grappling with rapid industrialization.

” we are all too familiar with the environmental challenges posed by industrial activities, the untreated effluent from these industries is not only dangerous but also endangers the well-being of our communities.” Ajayi stated.

“The event featured presentations from various Stakeholders including the General Manager LASEPA, Dr Babatunde Ajayi,Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr (Mrs) kemi Ogunyemi who was represented by SSA on Health Dr(Mrs) Oluwatoni Adeyemi ,the Director,Air quality & Emission Units, LASEPA,Mrs Ayodele Osho and also top government officials, representatives of the State House of Assembly, Captains of industries,among others were in attendance.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
