A recent survey estimates that in 2024, men in Lagos spent N661 billion on transactional s+x, with N329 billion paid directly to workers in the adult industry and N332 billion on related expenses.
The survey, shared by X user @kayomosebi, examined the economic impact of s+x work in Lagos. It found that out of 3.1 million s+x¥ally active men aged 20 to 69 across 20 local government areas, 1.86 million engaged in transactional s+x.
The average rate per encounter was N36,750, with the lowest at N20,000. In Eti-Osa LGA, which includes Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki, prices reached as high as N100,000.
Other areas with high transaction rates included Surulere, Kosofe, Alimosho, and Oshodi-Isolo.
Of the N329 billion earned by workers in the adult industry, N93 billion was spent on beauty and skincare products, while N62.5 billion went toward supporting their families.
Another N62.5 billion covered lifestyle expenses, including rent, fashion, fitness, and transportation.
Investments in businesses such as crypto, forex, and betting accounted for N46 billion, while N30 billion was spent on health and education, including medical check-ups, antibiotics, and academic fees.
Beyond direct payments, Lagos men spent N332 billion on associated costs. Entertainment, food, and hospitality alone accounted for N150.6 billion, while another N33.4 billion went to dr¥gs, s+x¥al enhancers, stimulants, and s+x accessories.
