Lagos is like New York in the United States, belongs to no tribe – Charly Boy fumes

Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has thrown his weight behind the assertion that Lagos State does not belong to any specific ethnic group.

Speaking during an interview with News Central TV, he described Lagos as a true melting pot, comparing it to New York City in the United States.

He stressed that the city’s diversity is what makes it vibrant and unique.

Charly Boy expressed dissatisfaction with the recent renaming of a popular bus stop from his name to that of Nigerian hip-hop star, Olamide Baddo, by the Bariga Local Council Development Area.

He saw the move as a reflection of growing ethnic bias in governance, and accused the Lagos State Government of engaging in tribal politics rather than fostering unity.

The activist emphasized that Lagos, Nigeria’s former capital, thrives because of the contributions of people from various ethnic backgrounds. “It is really a no man’s land.

Lagos is like the New York of Nigeria,” he said, adding that the government’s actions risk undermining the spirit of inclusion and cosmopolitanism that defines the city.
