Lagos Gov’t takes over Pelewura market

The Lagos state government through the Urban Development Office and Lagos Building Control Agency has officially taken control of Popluar Pelewura Market in Lagos Island.

This was made known in a post on X by the Lagos Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, on Friday, 6th of September, 2024.

Gawat wrote:

“The Lagos State Government through the Urban Development Office, The Lagos Building Control Agency #LasbcaA has taken over Pelewura. Compensation payment ongoing.”

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had during the official presentation of bank cheques and bank drafts to victims of the Docemo fire incident, approved the total demolition and reconstruction of the market and also promised to commence compensation for occupants of the market.
