Lagos Govt seals facility for improper waste disposal, issues health warning

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has shut down Viva Bella Court II, located in the Lekki Peninsula area of Eti-Osa, Lagos, due to its unlawful discharge of untreated wastewater into drainage systems.

The facility was also found to have an overfilled septic tank, which has been leaking waste into the surrounding environment, contributing to severe pollution.

According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the facility’s ongoing and deliberate practice of improperly emptying its septic tanks has led to a persistent foul odour in the area, severely affecting the quality of life for nearby residents.

In a post on X, Tokunbo Wahab emphasised the importance of responsible wastewater management and proper hygiene practices.

The post reads:

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) sealed off Viva Bella Court II, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, Lagos, for deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater into the drains via a laid pipe and having an overfilled septic tank spilling to the environment. “

“The continuous deliberate emptying of the septic tanks has been causing the reported foul smell in the surrounding area. This is an act of environmental nuisance, pollution, degradation and endangering of human health.

“Lagosians are advised to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability, as such acts portend grave dangers to public health and will be meted out with the appropriate sanctions.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
