Lagos Govt, JOSPONG signs MoU to address increase in waste generation

The Government of Lagos State has a signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the JOSPONG Group of Companies to address the pressing challenges posed by the rapidly growing population and the increase in waste generation.

The recent development was made known by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on his X page on Friday, 1st of March, 2024.

Tokunbo disclosed that Lagos State generates between 13,000 and 15,000 metric tonnes of waste per day.

He wrote:

“Currently, Lagos generates between 13,000 and 15,000 metric tonnes of waste per day.

“Earlier this week, the Lagos State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the JOSPONG Group of Companies. This collaborative effort is a visionary endeavour aimed at revolutionizing waste management in Lagos.

“This initiative seeks to address the pressing challenges posed by the rapidly growing population and the consequent increase in waste generation. With a strategic focus on sustainability, environmental health, and economic empowerment. The aim is to transform Lagos into a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous community through innovative waste management solutions in line with Governor #jidesanwoolu THEMES+ Agenda.

“The main focus of this initiative is the development of an integrated waste management system that encompasses advanced recycling and composting plant, a modernised waste collection method, the rehabilitation and retrofitting of existing waste management facilities to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of waste in Lagos.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
