The Lagos State Government has given a 48-hour notice to traders and stall owners operating under the Apongbon Bridge and along drainage setbacks in Lagos Island to vacate the areas.
The state government warned that the activities of these illegal stall owners and traders contribute to flooding and endanger lives and properties.
This was made known via a statement shared on the X page of the Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Thursday, 23rd of January 2025.
The statement reads:
“Today, I led an inspection of the Savage/Elegbata/Bombata drainage channel on Lagos Island. It’s disheartening to see illegal stalls and structures on critical drainage setbacks. These activities contribute to flooding and endanger lives and properties.
“We’ve issued a 48-hour ultimatum for traders and stall owners to vacate these areas. Our infrastructure is for public use, and not for personal gain. We cannot allow Lagos to become a Hobbesian state where life become nasty, brutish, and short.
“We are determined to enforce environmental laws, clear infractions, and ensure proper maintenance of these facilities.
“Together with the Local Governments, we’ll continue advocacy, enforcement, and enlightenment to protect our environment.
“Let’s work together to make Lagos sustainable for all.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
