Lagos Govt Initiates Removal of Over 100 Shanties in Adeniji Adele Under-Bridge Area (Video)

The Lagos State government has on Monday, started demolishing more than 100 shanties occupying the space beneath the Adeniji Adele under-bridge area.

This is in line with safety, public health, and urban design considerations.

Wahab, Lagos commissioner on Sunday, May 5 disclosed that the operation would kick off on the following day after a 48-hour notice to all shanty occupants was issued on Saturday, May 4. The notice directed the occupants to remove all their belongings and vacate the place.

“”The joint task force of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) and Lagos State Environment and Special Offences team, commenced the removal of shanties and makeshift structures built under Adeniji Adele bridge after expiration of the vacation notice. “Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab said in a video shared on his official handle on Monday, May 6th, 2023, confirming the start of the removal.

Hee also added that the removal of the structures has been a collaboration between the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences team.

The state government also stated that the inspection later confirmed that the outposts had 86 partitioned rooms measuring either 10×10 or 12×10 square feet.

The commissioner further claimed that the rooms had informal occupants, which they rented for an annual fee of N250,000. It was also disclosed that more suspects aided in that transaction by apprehending suspected gang leaders prime suspect. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
