Lagos Court Orders Remand Of Emefiele In EFCC Custody

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has entered a not guilty plea to 26 counts of charges that include allegations of abuse of power.

The federal government arraigned Emefiele in the Ikeja high court on Monday.

To every case, the former governor of CBN entered a not guilty plea.

He will be placed under detention until the court’s next postponed hearing on Thursday, April 11, when it will make a decision regarding bail.

In addition, Emefiele’s co-defendant Henry Omoile was placed under detention at the Kirikiri Prison by Justice Rahman Oshodi until the court’s decision on his bail was made on Thursday.

Following their attorney Lebi Lawal’s presentation of bail petitions, the court ruled that both men should be placed on remand.

In their request for Emefiele’s bail, the attorney has instructed the judge to either grant Emefiele the most lenient bail conditions or bail on self-recognizance until the matter is heard and decided. Additionally, the attorney requested that the court offer the second defendant the most generous bail conditions.

In his answer, Rotimi Oyedepo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and counsel for the EFCC, did not object to the bail request. He requested that the judge use its judgment while granting bail. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
