Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project not wasteful — Former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani

A former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has defended the N15.6 trillion Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, rejecting claims by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that it is a wasteful venture.

Sani’s comments come after Obasanjo criticised the ambitious infrastructure project, calling it both wasteful and corrupt.

The former president also took issue with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, particularly the N21 billion allocated for the construction of a new official residence for Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

Obasanjo voiced his concerns in the sixth chapter of his new book, ‘Nigeria: Past and Future’, which was launched last week to commemorate his 88th birthday.

Sani defended the coastal highway project via a post on his X page on Thursday, 13th of March 2025.

He wrote:
