Labour Party Demands Apology From Members-elect For Praising Tinubu

The Labour Party (LP) has called for two members-elect of the House of Representatives, Amobi Ogah and Obi Aguochaby, to issue an apology following their remarks after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting took place at the presidential villa on Thursday and attracted attention due to the comments made by the lawmakers.

Amobi Ogah, who will represent the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia in the 10th assembly, expressed surprise at President Tinubu’s intelligence and praised his charisma, indicating his readiness to lead the nation.

However, LP’s publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, released a statement on Friday, asserting that the comments made by Ogah and Aguochaby contradicted the ideals of the Labour Party.

According to the statement, the members-elect mentioned during their interviews that they had agreed to align with the government and party’s decision on the zoning of the leadership of the national assembly.

While acknowledging that the lawmakers have the right to express their individual opinions, the Labour Party emphasized that they cannot claim to speak on behalf of the party, as their views were in direct opposition to the party’s principles.

The Labour Party is currently pursuing legal action in the tribunal to reclaim the mandate it believes was rightfully won by its presidential candidate in the election held on February 25. The party remains steadfast in its belief that justice will be served.

The statement clarified that the Labour Party does not harbor any personal animosity towards President Tinubu but is challenging both the electoral process and the final outcome of the presidential election. The party maintains that any deviation from an excellent and fair route to the presidency would be a mockery of democracy.

In light of these concerns, the Labour Party cautioned the two lawmakers, as well as any other members elected on the party’s platform, to refrain from diverging from the party’s agreed positions and ideals. They urged them to avoid pursuing individual glory at the expense of the party’s principles.
