The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has refuted the claim of reaching a consensus with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or anyone else regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the Kano State governorship election.
Freshreporters News reported that the Supreme Court affirmed the NNPP’s Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of Kano State after a series of legal actions at the Election Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, the former Governor of Kano State stated that the Supreme Court’s decision should serve as a lesson to everyone, emphasizing that he did not reach an understanding with anyone before the verdict.
He said, “The events at the Supreme Court serve as a lesson for all of us. I am conscious of my good intentions for everyone. Throughout this period, I have not wronged anyone, and each person will reap what they sow. To the best of my knowledge, I have not come to terms with anyone.
“All I know is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is my contemporary. We both entered politics at the same time in SDP. He was a senator, and I served as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. In 1999, he was my colleague as the Governor of Lagos State.
“We co-founded the APC, and together, we actively participated in the subsequent struggles. It should be known that falsehood has a short life. Despite the schemes those individuals orchestrated, the judges have upheld justice.
“There is no issue. They have their party, and we have ours. We will collaborate when necessary. On the matter of joining the government, only time will reveal.”
Kwankwaso added that he would not dominate Governor Yusuf, stating that he could only offer advice.
He further stated, “Kabir Yusuf is the Governor, and our role is advisory. Even if he were my biological son, I cannot dictate to him. I have provided counsel even before the government assumed office. There are numerous individuals like me, and I cannot act alone. When a governor or president performs well, credit goes to them. If not, the blame falls on them.
“People often misunderstand this. When I was a governor, I would consider suggestions from various sources, including those discarded by people, even found in dustbins. This applies to radio stations and newspapers as well. Everything has its appointed time. Those who succeed should be given the chance to prove their capabilities.
“There were mistakes in the previous judgments, but the Supreme Court rectified the errors made by the lower courts. In other places, those who delivered judgments in the lower courts would resign from their positions.”..[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
