Kidnapped Taraba University Students Released After Ransom Paid

Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, two Federal University Wukari (FUW) Taraba State students, who were abducted around two weeks ago, are now free.

Sardauna from the Economics Department and Obianu from the Microbiology Department were abducted from outside the school on Monday, April 1, 2024.

The abductors first sought a N50 million ransom, then lowered it to N12 million. After several rounds of talks with the victims’ parents, they finally agreed to pay N700,000.

The victims were rescued about 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, according to the University’s Head of Information and Protocol, Mrs. Ashu Agbu, who verified the news on Friday.

Agbu acknowledged that a ransom was paid in order to free the two students, but he also said that the management of the school and security personnel worked together to make this possible.

Speaking with reporters, a few studentsĀ encouraged the federal and state governments to work with the school’s security personnel to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
