Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that keeping of sensitive electoral materials in the Central bank of Nigeria, CBN will come to an end in Nigeria.
INEC announcing the new development on Saturday 4th of June, 2022 said in an open dialogue which is organised in Abuja by the civil society organisation, Enough is Enough Nigeria.
The further stated that the move is starting with the Ekiti State governorship election which is coming up in few weeks.
According to him, “We appreciate the circumstances and for that reason the sensitive materials for Ekiti election will not be routed through the Central Bank of Nigeria…in the meantime. But when it comes to subsequent elections… general election, we have to look for other means of handling it. I want to assure you that for Ekiti State, the materials will not be handled by the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
