The Kano State Government has given its approval for the allocation of N854 million to fund a mass wedding initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this announcement through social media on Thursday.
The decision was a result of discussions held during a meeting of the state executive council on Wednesday.
Governor Yusuf revealed, “From yesterday’s meeting, the Kano State Executive Council has approved the allocation of 854 million Naira for the initial phase of the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative.”
FRESHREPORTERS MEDIA reports that the recent move follows an announcement by the state’s Hisbah board, led by its commandant Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, indicating preparations to organize a mass wedding for 1,020 couples who have expressed their interest from across the state.
The primary objective of this mass wedding initiative is to provide assistance to couples facing financial challenges that prevent them from getting married.
The high costs associated with marital ceremonies often serve as a barrier for these couples.
To ensure the suitability of the couples, Sheikh Daurawa outlined that they will undergo several screenings, including tests for HIV, pregnancy, genotype, and drug use.
This thorough assessment aims to ensure that couples are equipped for a harmonious and healthy marital life.
The mass wedding initiative is designed to select 20 couples from each of the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the state. The remaining 120 couples will be chosen by the Hisbah board.
Sheikh Daurawa emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive image and urged the board’s officials to avoid actions that could tarnish the reputation of the state.
FRESHREPORTERS MEDIA noted that this isn’t the first time that the Kano State Government has organized a mass wedding for individuals in need.
