A notorious bandit from the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State named Isah Lawal, 33, has been taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command.
Lawal was captured during an intelligence-led clearance operation in Kano State by a group of police officers under the command of SP Aliyu Mohammed Auwal.
Security source stated that Lawal was an expert in armed robbery, kidnapping, and livestock rustling.
Six sheep and fifty-five cows were recovered as a result of the operation, which took place on January 4, 2024, in the Karaye local government area of the State, near the Kaduna-Kano boundary. The suspect, a resident of Giwa LGA in Kaduna State’s Kaya Village, admitted that gang internal strife caused them to escape their Maidaro bandits’ camp in Birnin Gwari LGA.
Lawal said during the investigation that one of the gang leaders, Bashir of Malumfashi, Katsina State, died during battles with a rival bandit organization, which is what led to his move to Kano State, more precisely the Gwarzo-Karaye Forest.
In a press release verifying the capture of the infamous bandit, ASP Abdullahi Hussaini, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), praised the work of the police officers and revealed that CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered the deployment of more personnel and equipment to guard Kano State’s borders.
