Male disc jockeys (DJs) are not allowed to serve as masters of ceremonies at occasions where women predominate in Kano State.
At a meeting with state representatives of DJs, the Commander General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said that the decision was made to forbid mingling of men and women at events.
Sheikh Daurawa clarified that from now henceforth, women will only be permitted to preside over women’s events.
He said, “As an Islamic state, it is unacceptable for us to allow the indiscriminate mixing of males and females at the same event. This is because this act can promote and spread immorality.”
He mentioned that a prior meeting had been arranged to acquaint owners and managers of event centers in the state with the pertinent legislation that govern their operations.
DJ Farawa, also known as Ibrahim Abdullahi, the DJs’ representative, thanked the board in his remarks for hosting them and for counseling them on the new rules the board had implemented to direct their operation.
He said, “We are happy with the invitation of the hisbah board to our union of DJs. They have given us guidelines on the sanctity of prayer times during events, as well as the need to prevent the mixing of males and females during those events.”
Ibrahim noted that all DJs performing in the state must adhere to the new guidelines issued by the board to avoid being sanctioned.
He said, “This is why we are calling on all DJs to register with our union in order to benefit from the guidelines that have been issued.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
