Kalvin Phillips Moves To West Ham, Ivo Grbic Leaves Atletico Madrid For Sheffield

Kalvin Phillips, the Manchester City English midfielder has finalized his move away from Manchester City and joined West Ham United on loan for the remaining part of the 2023-2024 season.

West Ham has a purchase option for the Manchester City player who is 28 years at the end of the loan.

Remember that Phillips signed a six-year contract with City when he joined the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United in July for £45 million.

In his eighteen months at City, he struggled to break into the first team under manager Pep Guardiola making only two starts and appearing in a total of sixteen Premier League matches.

He attracted interest from a number of other teams including the likes of Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and even Juventus but in the end, he chose to make the move to West Ham.

That will be great development to the loan agreement for Hammers boss David Moyes, who has been keen on strengthening a squad that has been hit by several injuries.

Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez will miss out on the FA Cup match against Bristol City due to calf injury. Others including Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta are also missing through different stages of long-term injuries.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, have signed Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Ivo Grbic on loan until the end of the season.

Grbic will compete with Wes Foderingham who has started every one of Sheffield’s 21 league games this season.

The transfer fee the Premier League club paid for Grbic is unknown and he is expected to remain at the club until 2027.

“I am really happy to be here. It is a big thing for every player to move to the Premier League,” the 28-year-old Croatian goalkeeper said.

“This is the best challenge for me. I’m sure it will be an amazing experience and it will be fun to play in front of our fans. I want to be involved as soon as possible.

“I’ve played in some good leagues in France and Spain and played in the Champions League with Lille and played 15 or 16 games for Atletico last season which is a big club. I know I am ready now for this challenge.”…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
