Kaduna State Police Arrest Two Men For ATM Card Swapping Scam

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police command have apprehended two individuals accused of swapping the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card of an unsuspecting victim.

The incident serves as a reminder for the general public to exercise caution when it comes to their ATM cards, as highlighted in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mohammed Jalige.

According to the statement, a woman reported the incident on June 12, 2023, explaining that on June 10, 2023, she visited Jaiz Bank located at Ali Akilu Road Kaduna to conduct a financial transaction using her ATM card. During the transaction, an unidentified person approached her under the guise of assisting but instead dishonestly swapped her debit card and quickly made an escape.

Soon after, the victim received two debit alerts amounting to a total sum of four hundred and four thousand Naira (N404,000.00k) from her bank. Prompt investigation by the State Intelligence Bureau, Kaduna Command led to the arrest of two suspects, Paul Agu Daniel and Mike Ogah, both males from different addresses within Kaduna State.

The suspects voluntarily confessed to the alleged crime and revealed that they had previously defrauded another victim of the sum of nine hundred and forty-eight thousand Naira (N948,000.00k) using a fidelity ATM card.

The ongoing investigation aims to apprehend any other criminal accomplices involved in the scam. The Commissioner of Police commended the diligent efforts of the detectives involved in the arrest, while urging the public to exercise caution and be selective about who they allow to handle their ATM cards.
