A large number of people, including women and children travelling on an unnamed boat, are feared dead after it overturned on the River Niger.

While the exact number of casualties remains officially unknown, the passengers were reportedly coming from Kogi State.

Anambra State Police spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident and assured the situation was under control.

“The situation is under control,” Ikenga stated. “Our marine officers responded quickly after receiving the distress call. We managed to rescue over 30 passengers alive and recovered five bodies from the water and the wrecked boat.”

“Early information suggests the boat originated from Kogi State, carrying goods and passengers before the unfortunate incident. The cause is still being investigated, please.”

Ngige Predicts APC Victory in 2025 Anambra Elections:

Meanwhile, former Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) taking over Anambra State in the 2025 governorship election.

Freshreports News reports that Ngige shared this optimism during a Saturday interview with journalists in Alor, while distributing relief supplies to residents across the state’s 21 local government areas.

When asked about how APC will win control from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the former Anambra governor claimed they have everything in place to take over from the current governor, Charles Soludo.

“Don’t worry about us,” Ngige explained. “This is politics, and in politics, you disagree to agree. One day, if you don’t agree, you face the consequences. We didn’t agree in the 2021 elections, and the results in Anambra were clear.”

“I’m optimistic that APC will take over Anambra in 2025. If you’re not optimistic in life, you might as well give up. Optimism is our motto in APC. We haven’t achieved what we should here, but I have hope that between now and the 2025 governorship election, we will get our act together and take over from APGA.”..[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
