Chuks Akunna, a seasoned Nigerian journalist and political commentator, has described the alleged leaked phone conversation between Peter Obi and Bishop David Oyedepo as counterfeit.
During an interview on the ‘Kaakaki’ program of Africa Independent Television, Chuks Akunna, a veteran Nigerian journalist and political affairs commentator, expressed his opinion that the leaked phone conversation between Peter Obi and Bishop David Oyedepo is fake.
Akunna, who has experience as a journalist, pointed out that certain phone calls are not made on open, unencrypted platforms, and he believed that Obi and Oyedepo would not have such a conversation in that manner.
Akunna also argued that the way the conversation was hastily patched together suggested that it could be a deep fake.
He identified several inconsistencies in the alleged conversation, including the inclusion of the ringtone of the dialed call, which is not a standard feature in recording applications.
He noted that recording applications typically commence recording when the conversation begins and not during the ringing phase of a call, which raised doubts about the authenticity of the leaked audio.
Akunna criticized the media outlet that first published the audio tape for not adhering to journalistic standards and acting hastily without conducting thorough checks.
