On Sunday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced its decision to invalidate the result of Ejikeme Mmesoma for manually inflating her score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and falsely claiming to be the top scorer.
The board revealed that Ejikeme utilized her manipulated score to secure a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors and was scheduled to receive an honor from the Anambra State government before her deception was exposed.
In a statement released by JAMB, the board addressed the proliferation of fake results being celebrated by certain candidates in both print and online media. They clarified that many of these candidates had significantly lower scores than they claimed, resorting to deceptive software to manipulate their results and deceive the public.
The case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma stood out as particularly disheartening. She had declared a score of 362 in the UTME and received a N3 million scholarship from Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma.
Furthermore, the Anambra State Government was preparing to honor her achievements when a high-ranking official contacted JAMB to verify her claim. It was then revealed that Ejikeme had actually scored 249, not 362, thus exposing her fraudulent manipulation of the UTME result for personal gain.
Another case highlighted by the board was that of a candidate named Atung Gerald from Kaduna. He had purportedly achieved a total aggregate score of 380, and his ethnic group had requested special recognition based on this claim. However, JAMB confirmed that Atung had never registered for the 2023 UTME or participated in the examination.
JAMB urged the public to verify candidates’ claims with the board before bestowing awards or recognition upon them. Fraudulent software has been developed to fabricate result sheets, leading to the exploitation of well-meaning individuals, such as Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, the founder of Innoson Motors, who seeks to celebrate genuine academic excellence through investments in the education of Nigerian youth.
Regarding the punishment for Ejikeme, JAMB announced the withdrawal of her result and plans to prosecute her for her fraudulent actions. The board commended individuals like Dr. Innocent Chukwuma and encouraged other Nigerians to persevere in investing in the future of deserving students while ensuring they obtain authentic results from JAMB.
The statement emphasized that the genuine results are securely held by the board and will be transmitted to candidates’ chosen institutions in due course. JAMB pledged to investigate all candidates making claims of higher scores than they actually obtained. If found guilty, their original results will be invalidated, and they will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
