The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted viral social media claims stating that current university undergraduates are prohibited from registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry.
In a statement, the Board clarified that the reports are a distortion of its policies. It confirmed that students already enrolled in tertiary institutions are indeed eligible to apply for the 2026 examinations, on the condition that they fully disclose their existing matriculation status during the registration process.
JAMB explained that this mandatory declaration is part of new reforms designed to curb the issue of multiple matriculations, enhance transparency, and promote equity within the national admissions system. The Board noted that the 2026 registration advertisement explicitly instructs candidates to state any current admission status, and the online portal has been configured to capture this information.
Prospective applicants were advised to obtain accurate information solely through JAMB’s official communication channels as the registration exercise proceeds.
The Board reiterated its dedication to upholding a credible, fair, and transparent admissions process for Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
