Iran has issued a direct warning to the United States, stating that any intervention in its ongoing nationwide protests would result in attacks on American military bases across the Middle East. A senior Iranian official relayed this threat amid escalating tensions, fueled by repeated statements from U.S. President Donald Trump in support of the protesters.
In response to the heightened risk, personnel at the key U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar have been advised to leave as a precautionary measure, though not as a full evacuation—a move similar to steps taken before previous Iranian missile strikes.
President Trump, in a recent interview, vowed “very strong action” if Iranian authorities execute protesters, telling Iranians that “help is on the way” and encouraging them to seize control of institutions. The Iranian official claims Tehran has contacted regional allies like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Turkey to warn that their soil could become a target if Washington takes military action against Iran.
Information from within Iran is severely restricted due to an internet blackout. Unofficial tallies vary: a human rights group reports over 2,400 protester deaths, while an Iranian official places the figure at around 2,000. Iranian authorities blame the U.S. and Israel for inciting the unrest, which they label as terrorism, and are conducting swift trials of those accused of violence.
