Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi Condemns Sit-at-Home Directives in South-East as Criminal Enterprise
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has criticized the sit-at-home directives in the south-east, describing them as the work of a criminal enterprise.
In a statement shared on his official Twitter page, Obi emphasized that the orders were not issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He called on security agencies to swiftly address the heightened insecurity and crime prevailing across the country.
Commending the south-eastern governors for their efforts in combating criminal activities in the region, Obi urged for more strategic and intelligence-driven approaches to alleviate the suffering of citizens.
He highlighted the worrisome situation in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state, where lives and properties have been lost with minimal resistance from security operatives.
Regarding the disruptions caused by the sit-at-home directive in the South East, Obi emphasized that it was essentially a criminal activity that needed to be curbed.
He called for the collaboration of security agencies and the public in addressing this issue, emphasizing that innocent citizens should not bear the brunt of such unrest.
Obi stressed the importance of valuing human lives in the response to critical issues, as an insecure environment hampers development and discourages investment. He urged religious, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to continue promoting peace among their people.
Additionally, Obi appealed to governments at all levels to urgently address the widespread poverty and youth unemployment prevalent in the country, as a means to tackle insecurity effectively.
In conclusion, Peter Obi emphasized the need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to combat criminal activities, promote peace, and address the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria.
