Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, has fingered that the 2020 #EndSARS protests has prompted an attacks on correctional facilities in the country.
The minister disclosed this through his Media Adviser, Sola Fasure, in a press statement from his visit to the Kirikiri Maximum and Minimum correctional centres in Lagos state on Tuesday, 12th of July, 2022.
While boasting of the recent jailbreaks attempted by inmates at the kirikiri centre, he said that the jailbreak has not been successful but he expressed concerns that there had been mass attacks from the outside on the correctional facilities since the #EndSARS protests that stirred up in October 2020.
According to him, “So far, no jailbreak by inmates has been successful, we have successfully quelled all of them. What we have recurring since the #EndSars protests of October 2020, has been a mass of people attacking our facilities from outside and setting the inmates free.
“However, I have now directed the Controller General of the NCOS to double his efforts on intelligence gathering to fortify and prevent breaches to the Custodial Centres beyond the use of arms and force.” He said
