A horrifying incident unfolded yesterday in Afikpo North Local Government Area, as Mr. Emmanuel Igwe, an Assistant Electoral Officer (EO), was brutally shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

In a further distressing turn of events, the assailants also abducted his wife, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

The incident reportedly took place along the Ivo LGA axis, where Mr. Igwe was fatally shot multiple times before his wife was forcefully taken.

According to preliminary reports, Mr. Igwe, who was an electoral official in the state, was returning from a trip to Abia State when he tragically encountered the armed criminals. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing events that unfolded, painting a grim picture of the incident.

The motive behind the attack and the identity of the perpetrators are yet to be ascertained, leaving the community and law enforcement agencies in a state of shock and dismay.

The police have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind this heinous crime and to secure the safe release of Mrs. Igwe.

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Ebonyi State Command, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday around mid-day.

He said the gunmen shot the victim through his car’s windscreen, adding that “We have began a manhunt for the assailants. We are hopeful that they will be apprehended. The victim was shot through the windscreen of his car “
