The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented Certificates of Return to seven candidates who emerged victorious in the bye-elections held on August 16.
According to a statement on INEC’s official X handle, the National Commissioners for the relevant geopolitical zones handed over the sealed certificates to the newly elected officials, in accordance with Section 71(1) of the Electoral Act, which mandates the issuance of certificates within 14 days of an election.
The statement reads:
“Following the conclusion of the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, and in accordance with Section 71(1) of the Electoral Act, sealed Certificates of Return in a prescribed form shall be issued within 14 days to every candidate returned by the Returning Officer.
“In line with this provision, the National Commissioner overseeing each relevant geopolitical zone today presented Certificates of Return to seven (7) candidates who emerged victorious in the elections.
“These include: Two (2) Senatorial Districts: Anambra South, Edo Central
“Five (5) Federal Constituencies: One each in the states of Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo.”
