“I’m Not a Saint, There Is Nothing Wrong With Nigeria” – Peter Obi

“I Am Not A Saint, And I Am Not A Criminal”, Peter Obi Says

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, emphasized that he doesn’t claim to be a saint or a criminal.

He highlighted his dedicated service as the former Governor of Anambra State and in the private sector.

He pointed out that Nigeria, rich in land and resources, lacks good leadership as its sole deficiency.

Obi shared his perspective as the special guest of honor at the Edo Policy Roundtable, hosted in collaboration with Mudiame University in Edo Central Senatorial District.

The event, titled “The Contemporary Nigerian Politics: The Way Forward for Edo State,” was a colloquium and hall of fame ceremony honoring the LP’s national chairman, Julius Abure.

He stated, “I am not a saint, and I am not a criminal. I have never done anything that is wrong. I have served the state (Anambra) and I have served in the private sector. Today, we are going through difficulties (in Nigeria). If you do not plan, you have planned to fail.”

Obi stressed the importance of planning and blamed the country’s challenges on the lack of effective plans and implementation.

He asserted that with good leadership, Nigeria could thrive, as it possesses abundant land, favorable weather, rich resources, and a talented populace.

He also mentioned that the nation’s poverty is primarily due to a lack of quality leadership. Obi pointed out that Nigeria has a wealth of resourceful young people and highlighted the need to transition from consumption to production to create jobs.

Obi further insisted that curbing corruption among politicians is vital for Nigeria’s improvement.

He discouraged celebrating those who acquire wealth through dishonest means, emphasizing that public funds should not be treated as private assets.

He concluded, “Please, join me in building a better Nigeria. We want good news about Nigeria.”

The roundtable event was chaired by the Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti, who was represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu.
