The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC has arrested one Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, with the identified Twitter handle of Lala, offering newly redesigned naira notes for sale on social media platforms.
This is coming as a result of intelligence received by the agency which led the ICPC operatives to seek out and promptly nab the suspect known to be racketeer.
The suspect, Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, a social media “serial entrepreneur” who deals in skincare products, sales of fuel, facilitation of foreign travels through visa acquisitions, and other known businesses, seized the opportunity of the scarcity of the newly redesigned naira notes to openly market the new notes to the masses. It is believed she is in collusion with key elements in the financial services sector of the country diverting the newly released notes away from banking halls and payment channels into a “ black market” system.
The suspect is currently in ICPC den and is helping the Commission with its findings on the criminal trading of the newly redesigned naira and the attendant scarcity and negative economic outcomes being caused by the action that had led to her detention.
The apprehend action is in furtherance of the collaboration between the central bank of Nigeria, ICPC and the anti-graft EFCC in implementing the new cashless policy and naira redesign.
