Ibadan Christmas Party Stampede: Ooni of Ife’s estranged wife, Naomi, seven others apprehended as minors d£ath toll rises to 35

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, along with seven others in connection with the tragic Christmas party incident in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to a statement from SP Osifeso Adewale, 35 children have been confirmed d+ad, with six others critically inj¥red.

It could be noted that Agidigbo FM, a well-known private radio station, distanced itself from the unfortunate children’s event that led to multiple fatalities on Wednesday morning in Ibadan.

The station’s management clarified that they were neither sponsors nor organizers of the event, identifying the organizer as WINGS (Women In Need Of Guidance and Support), founded by Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.

In its statement, the police noted,

“Following the stampede incident on December 18, 2024, at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, during a family event organized by WINGS Foundation and media partners Agidigbo FM, the Oyo State Police Command announces the arrest of eight individuals for their involvement.”

Those arrested include Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, 31; Fasasi Abdulahi, 56, the school principal; Genesis Christopher, 24; Tanimowo Moruf, 52; Anisolaja Olabode, 42; Idowu Ibrahim, 35; and Abiola Oluwatimilehin, 25.

The police report states, “So far, 35 minors have been documented as deceased, while six others are receiving critical medical care.

The investigation has been escalated to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the case.
