The US President-elect, Donald Trump said,
“I helped Nelson Mandela and his crew travel to the United States in 1991 when the US government wouldn’t help him but I’ll never say it anywhere.”
“I never talk about what I did for Nelson Mandela in 1991 because I don’t think it’s a narrative the press doesn’t like. “
“In 1991, Nelson Mandela and 80 of his people were trying to come to the United States but the United States government wasn’t helping them, no one was helping them. “
“But I had to help him because I always felt like he was my brother. So I chartered a plane to accommodate him and his entire crew to the United States. “
“There are some things that I love doing without getting praise for it and what I did for Nelson Mandela is one of them. “
