In a rare moment of deep honesty, Funke Akindele opened up on Chude’s talk show about the emotional weight she carried in silence—and the moment she realized she couldn’t do it anymore.
“I told myself, I can’t continue like this. You need to speak,” she said.
The actress and filmmaker revealed that after losing her mother and going through intense personal struggles, she felt completely overwhelmed. Even though she’d always believed in therapy, she never actually submitted to it. Why? In her words, “I was always trying to be strong.”
Between societal expectations, family pressure, and personal grief, she found herself breaking down with no one to truly talk to. And even though she was suffering, she hesitated to seek professional help. “I thought they would carry it. People would talk about me. People would know my business.”
