In a surprising turn of events, Ejikeme Mmesoma, the student who was accused of forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, has finally admitted to the forgery. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had previously accused Mmesoma of falsifying her result, while she maintained that she had scored 362 out of 400.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, had released a statement claiming that the board’s records showed Mmesoma had sent several messages to their automated telecoms system, all of which indicated a result with an aggregate of 362. However, JAMB argued that the result being presented by Mmesoma was actually that of another candidate named ‘Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,’ who scored 138 in the 2021 UTME.
Following the controversy, JAMB imposed a three-year ban on Mmesoma from Anambra State, leading to mixed reactions from the public. Mmesoma, accompanied by her father, appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily to defend herself. She expressed her belief that she should not be held responsible for the printing error and subsequent accusations of forgery.
“It’s not my fault that I printed my result like that, and they said that I forged my result. It’s not my fault. So, them banning it is not fair,” Mmesoma stated during the interview.
Mmesoma claimed that she had sent a text message to JAMB’s support system seeking clarification but received no response. She urged JAMB to check their system, as it would confirm her attempt to contact them regarding the discrepancy in her result.
In response to Mmesoma’s defense, JAMB’s spokesperson, Benjamin, highlighted that the result she presented was obsolete and had been falsified by copying the details of another candidate’s result slip. Benjamin pointed out that the QR code on the result slip exposed the true owner of the result Mmesoma was parading.
Benjamin also commented on a video in which Mmesoma attempted to defend herself, suggesting that someone had coached her on what to say. He urged the public to carefully analyze the video and observe the apparent coaching taking place.
The case of Ejikeme Mmesoma and the alleged forgery of her UTME result has generated significant controversy and debate. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what further actions will be taken by JAMB regarding the matter.
