Hardship: Times Nigerians Hijacked Foodstuff, Dangote, BUA Trucks

In recent weeks under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, there have been numerous countrywide protests in Nigeria as citizens express their frustration over rising living expenses and economic policies that are perceived to worsen hardships.

The soaring price of commodities has significantly impacted the daily lives of Nigerians. However, awaited adjustments to the minimum wage remain unimplemented which deepens concerns over the rising cost of living.

Freshreporters News recalls that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) took to the streets in a determined protest on Tuesday. They demanded immediate action from the Federal Government to alleviate economic strain on citizens.

Amidst the peaceful demonstrations, some incidents have turned chaotic with reports of looting targeting corporate entities such as Dangote and BUA. These corporations are known for their contributions to the nation’s economy.

On February 22, a particularly alarming incident occurred in Niger State. Initially staged by fishermen protesting the sharp increase in fish prices, the protest was hijacked by hoodlums.

The protest began at around 10 am, but soon turned into a larger demonstration against the current economic conditions. This resulted in theft of food items from trucks that were stuck in traffic along Kaduna Road in the Suleja region.

Sadiq Bala, a candidate for the Suleja constituency under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), recounted to Daily Post how events escalated and resulted in several trucks being looted. These included vehicles belonging to Dangote and BUA.

Similarly, in Zaria, Kaduna State, another distressing incident unfolded on Friday around 3:15 pm. Residents looted cartons of spaghetti from a BUA Group truck.

The driver, who had momentarily parked the vehicle by the roadside to observe prayer, returned to find that their cargo had been stolen.

Security forces, including soldiers and police, have been deployed in response to these incidents. They utilized tear gas to disperse protesters and restore order.
