Gunmen Storm Mosque, K!ll Worshippers, and Abduct Several Villagers in Katsina

Armed gunmen attacked homes and a mosque on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, wreaking havoc and leaving a trail of murder and kidnappings in their wake.

The most catastrophic event happened in Yargoje village, Kankara Local Government Area, during the Ishai prayer.

Sources familiar with the incident said the gunmen stormed the mosque, spraying bullets at worshippers.

The source said

“They just walked in and started shooting.”

“Two people were killed right there, and another one was shot as he tried to run away. It was chaotic.

“The attack claimed the lives of three individuals and left four others injured. The injured are receiving treatment at a Kankara hospital. The gunmen also abducted a man and two women from the village.

“One of the victims, a man, tried to fight back, but they overpowered him and killed him,” the source lamented, adding that “they took the two women with them, and we don’t know where they are.”

The gunmen on Thursday, at around 2:30 am, targeted the residence of Ungwar Tudun Boka, Kankara vigilante member Sani Maikifi.

But when Maikifi made it out through the backyard, his family did not have the same luck.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, Maikifi had been being tracked by the attackers for a while.

He said:

“They’ve been after him for a while now.”

“They came looking for him, but he managed to get away. So, they took his wife and son instead.”

A further twist to the terrifying evening came on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. when armed men broke into Dangani village in Musawa LGA.

Before robbing a number of residents, they opened fire, creating confusion and fear.

“They came shooting sporadically,” reported a resident who witnessed the attack.

“We heard they were after a rich man from the south who was here visiting a bereaved family member. They took many people with them,” he added. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
