Gunmen Sh0t Down Police Inspector in Rivers State, Escape with Service Rifle

On Friday night, an unidentified gunmen took the life of a police inspector who was on escort duty at a well-known hotel located in the DLine area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the police officer was accompanying a person of great importance (VIP) when the assailants, riding in a Toyota Corolla, intercepted them.

The attackers opened fire on the police officer, tragically ending his life, and then fled the scene with his service AK-47 rifle and beret.

An eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous shared, “A police officer was shot in front of a popular hotel in DLine, and his service AK-47 was taken.”

“The criminals also grabbed his beret. The attackers were using a Grey 2005 Toyota Corolla. It’s important for everyone to exercise caution.”

Confirming the incident, SP Grace Iringe Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, disclosed that an intense manhunt has been initiated by the police to track down the culprits who fled the scene.

She provided further details, stating, “On 25/08/2023 at around 2030hrs, we received information that an Inspector attached to the Department of Operations in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, was fatally shot in the head while escorting his principal around the Landmark Hotel at Oroworukwo Olu Obasanjo Port Harcourt. His rifle and beret were seized during the incident.”

“Immediate patrol teams were dispatched to the location. We are actively working to apprehend the fleeing criminals and recover the stolen rifle. The body of the deceased has been taken to the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt for an autopsy.”..[CONTINUE READING HERE]
